Feature Hut of the Month
Ted's Hut
On a bright but bitterly cold Spring day (Hut Date: April 2008), I finally met up and made friends with Ted's Hut ...

His age is unknown, but the first recollected use for Ted's Hut was on a farm at Heydon, on the edge of Wood Dalling. He was used as a Shepherds Hut until the 1950's and when the farmer moved to a new farm higher up in North East Norfolk, Ted came along too. Again he was used as a Shepherds Hut at this farm but later changed his role to a pigmans store shed. When he'd served his purpose in this capacity he was wired up to house an electric fencer unit to deter the pigs from wandering from the site where he still resides today. What a multi-talented Hut ...

The chassis is oak - 3.75" x 2.5" - and the upright frames forming the corner posts and sides are 3.5" x 1.75" and made from softwood. The featheredge cladding is 6" wide x 0.75" maximum at the wide end. One side has been re-clad in tongue and groove.
The cast iron wheels are all the same size - 15" diameter x 3" wide with big diameter centre holes to run on fixed softwood axles.
Rear wheel repaired with iron band ...

Front Chassis Towing Eye ...

There is no roof lining, just the tin roof with a height to a maximum pitch of 80" ...

Top door hinge ...
The floor plan dimensions are 6' 2" x 4' 2" and this must rate Ted's Hut as one of the smallest huts I have seen ...
All in all Ted is a friendly little hut and a real gem amidst the countryside!
... a fan of Ted's Hut!
