Taylor - Indian Mutiny

I have recently aquired an Indian Mutiny Medal.
The medal is correctly impressed ... FRANK TAYLOR , 73rd REGt.
On the medal roll the only Taylor in the 73rd Regiment is named "Patrick". I suppose his full name could be Patrick Francis and he preferred to be called "Frank", but would this nickname be allowed on an officially impressed medal ?
There are three Francis Taylors on the roll. One was a sailor who died before he received his medal. Another was a sapper and the third was a private in another Scottish regiment, the 93rd Foot. Perhaps this man TRANSFERRED to the 73rd ?
I would be very grateful if anyone can offer a further explanation or information.
Just out of interest Patrick Taylor appears to have been a survivor of the HMS Birkenhead sinking and was awarded the 1853 South Africa Medal.
Thanks for you interest ... John
