My Kane/O'Kane family are from Gorteade townland, Maghera parish, County Derry, and just east of Keady townland, where they were tenant farmers. My line (Bernard O'Kane/Mary McKie, my great-grandparents) left there about 1862, first to Gateshead in NE England, and then chain-migrated to America through Philadelphia starting in about 1882 or so. Other family members remained in Gorteade into the 20th Century.
I've even written a book on my line what goes back to the late 1700s. Its available free on-line. I'd enjoy chatting with you about the family. You can contact me directly (preferred) at timoka48(at)gmail(dot)com
Good luck in your research.

I would love to find out more about my OKane family that came from Northern Ireland to the US during the great potato famine. It has been very difficult gathering info from this time frame. I would love to get in touch with family members still in Ireland. Any suggestions?
