RE: AMERICAN IRISH by Mary Averett FLORES - written 02/11/2014 01:35:27

My research has led me to you.  My family were OKaness from Derry, as well.  They came during the potato famine and ended up in Missouri.  It looks like your Francis had a son named Hugh, who had a daughter named Mary Catherine.  Mary Catherine was my was great grandmothers mother.  Are we cousins?

MY ANCESTORS: FRANCIS O'KANE, HIS SON DANIEL O'KANE (MY GREAT GRANDFTHER), CAME FROM KEADY TOWNLAND TO PENNSYLVANIA IN 1847. FRANCIS AND ROSEANNA HAD 8 CHILDREN, THE OLDEST, JAMES PRECEDED THE FAMILIES' ARRIVAL IN AMERICA AS DID CHARLES O'KANE. MY WIFE JOAN AND I ATTENDED THE GATHERING OF THE O'KANE CLAN IN COUNTY DERRY, THE FIRST GATHERING IN ALMOST 400 YEARS. WE WERE THE ONLY AMERICANS THERE, I BELIEVE. WE STAYED WITH HELEN O'KANE WHO HAD A MUTUAL FRIEND OF OURS IN AMERICA. IT WAS THROUGH HER AND WILLIAM O'KANE THAT WE FOUND OUT ABOUT THE GATHERING. SO MANY O'KANES CAME TO AMERICA DURING THE FAMINE AND I WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO MAKE ANY FAMIY CONNECTIONS POSSIBLE EITHER IN AMERICA OR DERRY. SO FAR NO SUCCESS. WE NOW HAVE 8 CHILDREN, 25 GRANDCHILDREN AND 4 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN. THE CLAN MOVES ON. I AM ALMOST 90 YEARS OLD MY 5 SONS AND 3 DAUGHTERS ARE IN THEIR 50'S AND 60'S. GOD BLESS YOU ALL FOR YOUR WORK FOR THE O'KANE CLAN.
