who are we by colrain - written 27/11/2011 02:46:17

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can associate the Coleraine family name with the O'Caithain clan, we know that our present spelling Colrain,is a derivative of  the original and changed by deed poll 1800's (Scotland)and that the family has its roots in northern island, have traced the name, as being used as a family name back to 17 hundreds, but can find no prior listings, coincidently the emergance of the Coleraine family name comes  after the demise of the O"Cahan name after the imprisonment of bannagh in the tower. The family rumour has us linked to the O'Kanes, but with ancient connections, Ie. we did not swear allegience to the engish faith, still Catholics, and suffered as a consequence. can anyone throw any light on this please or are we barking mad out here in Australia ,having no ancestry at all.
