RE: Which Blood Glucose Meter ?? by Helen - written 15/06/2009 22:11:25
Hi,  my daughter is Type 1 and has been for three and a half years.  She uses the Optium Exceed.  Its small and neat, gives results in 5 secs but you can also test your Ketones on it.  The result is much quicker, cleaner and accurate than testing your urine.  She was given this one when diagnosed as she had a brain virus ( which I believe triggered her diabetes ) and during her illness her sugar levels were very high therefore causing high ketones.  Its brilliant if you do suffer with high sugars.  She is 12 and growing quickly which is interferring with her sugar levels.  Her HBA1C is 10 - too high and we have tried everything to get it down.  Our local PCT has just agreed to give her an insulin pump, which we get in August - hence the reason for searching on the net - which is when I found your site - thanks.  Helen

Hi.

I just wanted to get a feel for which meter you currently use and the plus and minus points of the Blood Glucose Meter ie No Back Light, Too Small etc etc.

I currently use the New Wavesense Jazz Meter which is a great looking meter with backlight, no coding, large display, 5 second results. I hope to have more details on the Wavesense Meter in the next few weeks so please keep looking. I came across one of the smallest meters I have seen which is the New TRUEone Meter - which is basically a meter on top of the test strip container - very small and very cool. It fits in your pocket and also does not need coding - keep looking at my site for more details soon.

Thanks again and I look forward to your information.

Andrew
