pump malfuntion by Avi Koduru - written 11/12/2011 14:35:32
My sister has the pump since about january 2011. Until early october 2011 her pump malfunctioned and she had got ketones and her blood became acidotic so according to the protocols we had to admit her to the hospital. We asked Roche to send a new pump as the one with us malfunctioned. And they were very efficient and replaced it very quickly. My sisters HBA1AC were much better than wen she was using insulin pens, and this was a very successful transition. so moving on she recovered from her ketones and was doing very well again. but on the 9 December 2011 she had got ketones and right acidotic again but this time it was much more dangerous as her oxygen levels were dropping as well. After the doctors assessed her they are not sure how it happened. But they think the malfunctioned again and have sent it to Roche for checking the pump. We are really confused on what to do. Should we keep using the pump or go back to pens. with the pump her HBA1AC had gone dramatically better but she was not having these dangerous situations that often.
So my Question is Should WE Keep the Pump or Not?
(We could really use some advice from pump users)
