Dear Ibrahim - The GMC advised me to pursue a complaint via the NHS complaints procedure and to send them a copy of the resultant report. The NHS Trust failed to investigate the complaint but published a report containing defamatory comments about me. I complained to the Trust about the comments and sent the GMC a copy of the report. The GMC said they would retain same and inform the doctor concerned that they were doing so. As it is ten years since all this happened, I asked the GMC to return/destroy the copy or investigate whether the allegations about me are true. The GMC says it will do none of these things and that it must continue to store the document. The GMC has given me the option of adding a note, which I am not prepared to accept. Can the GMC continue storing such documents indefinitely? - Regards, June.
