I'm researching my family tree, and it turns out that a distant ancester of mine may have been a past landlord of the Cock Inn. His name was John Waterman, and he may have been landlord in about 1861. Does anybody know if this is true or anything about his time behind the bar? Thanks. Claire

Hi Claire,

Although your post was almost 2 years ago I thought I would reply as my distant ancestor was John Watermans wife Ann Beech the daughter of Mary FREMLIN and John Beech. As you are probably aware the Fremlin family opened a brewery in Maidstone circa 1790 and throughout my research of the family, descendants are associated with many pubs in Kent. Ann Waterman (nee Beech)'s sister Maria and her husband Ambrose Gowar were publicans of the Freemasons Arms in Ham Hill, Snodland at about the same time.
