RE: Cox family of kent by Helen - written 06/01/2012 14:54:48

Hi Peter

Thanks for your post.

It seems that James Cox and Mary Hopkins were married in 1791 in Boughton Aluph but started their family in the next village of Wye. There were five other children born from 1791 to 1800, which is when they must have moved back to Boughton Aluph. You can find this information on IGI.com and Mid Kent Marriages index. Certificates can only be ordered for dates after 1837 which is when BMD's started to be registered by the government. FreeBMD will help you locate post 1837 records.

Hope this helps a little.

If you need any more info just let me know.

Regards, Helen

Hi, I am from Australia and trying to track down my english ancestors.  The focus of my research at the moment is arounnd Bounton Aluph.  I have purchased CD 24 from the Kent Family history society and found out some information.  I am researcing the family of James and Mary Cox who had 6 children: Mary, Frances, Thomas, Peter, Henry and Catharine between 1802 - 1815.  My particlular interest at present is trying to identify which James and Mary Cox are the parents and where they are from.  There is a James cox from Badlesmere who married a Mary Hopkins in 1791 in Boughton ALuph.  It seems unusual to me that it would be 11 years before they began their family so that raises doubts about whether it was them or not.  Is there anything other than what is on CD 24 that could help me identify who these people are.  HOw do I go about finding/ ordering birth and death certificates and would they be helpful in this process anyway?  I am only relatively new at this genealogy thing.
