All those Ancestry entries are for my george, there are about 5 people in NSW (i contact) who are spin off from the Millen tree all trying to find George and they entries on most of the major sites..
The emigration record came from a ship (I have a copy) which had an entry for a George Miller from Alysebury, Buckinghamshire a labourer. On my map this is north of London and I feel not relevant. There was no middle name, pity.
Hi again John
As an aside, are an Ancestry user? There are several people on there with your George in their tree. Alas, none of them have any further info on George, apart from' born approx 1820 Kent' (Apart from one user that is way off mark in saying he was born in Brighton Sussex where it is plain to see this particular George is still living in the UK in all the censuses!)
One person has written that George emigrated when he was 18 in 'approx 1838' - they don't cite any references but maybe this might narrow things down for you a bit. Have you considered that George might be a middle name and that he emigrated under another name or that the surname was recorded as MILLER and not MILLEN ? A slip of the quill :)
Thanks for the response chris.
I have been researching the Australian Millen Family for 10 years and have most documentation/photos and a Family tree for the Austrlian line, starting at George.
The story so far, George married Anne Andrews from Bristol in Melbourne Australia in 1849, anne arrived with her family in 1848 off the "Palmalya". We could not find any shipping records for George, all his children were born in Australia and from their birth certs we ascertained he was born between 1818 - 1820, the certs say he came from London, Kent & England. George moved from victoria goldfields into new south wales goldfields. In 1862, 2 of his 3 males children died, just leaving my grt grandfather & 3 girls.. We have no record after that of george. Anne had a child to John Sawyer in 1863 and married him 7 years later (statutory time for a missing person to be declared dead) We have no birth, death or transportation for George, he just disappeared in 1863.
We do know he was about 30 when he married anne (18), he was a butcher in Melbourne and was so on the goldfields. It is conincidental that John Millen from Ashford was a slaughterman and had a george in 1819.
I know I am grasping at straws but I will eventually get that UK link for George
Best Wishes
Hi John
I can see your problem with George ! In order to see what transcription is correct the original records need to be viewed. These are kept at Maidstone and, even though it might take a few weeks, I'm sure someone will make a visit to solve the query.
In the meantime we might be able to find an answer using other details. Have you any more info on George and his family. Do you know his wife's name or his childrens details? With this info we might be able to track the family into other Ashford parishes or Kentish towns and ultimately find George's parents
Please use our email address if you don't wish to post such info in the forum
Looking forward to hearing from you again
Chris
