I suggest you email the club archivist, Paul Powell (Paultrials at yahoo dot com - change the words to get the correct address).  he has a wealth of knowledge and information and I am sure he would be pleased to help.  To get you started, though, The engine would seem to be a Villiers Starmaker judging by the engine number quoted.  I don't believe that any workshop manual was ever available for the Cotton machines but Paul will put you right on that.  I do. however, have a copy of the original Starmaker parts book which I would be willing to scan and send to you as a pdf file if you think that would help.  Suggest you email me direct christopher dot turner at tiscali dot co dot uk.
