Bernard Hieatt by Neil Hall - written 12/09/2012 19:46:07
Hi. My Grandfather's cousin (Bernard Laurence Hieatt) rode a Cotton motorcycle at the TT in 1928 and 1929 - his best finish was 9th I believe.

Bernard also raced and won races at Brooklands, and he was awarded a Gold Star for lapping the circuit at an average speed of above 100mph.

Tragically Bernard was killed racing at Brooklands in 1930 when he was only 21 or he may have gone on to win races at the TT too.

I have done some research into Bernard's short life and have visited his grave in Reading Cemetery.

I'd be very grateful if anyone has any more information regarding Bernard or the bikes he rode - I know he rode Cotton and Rex Acme models.

There's an article about Bernard at http://berksandbucks.greatbritishlife.co.uk/article/readings-forgotten-boy-hero--bernard-lawrence-hieatt-26616/

I hope someone will have some more information on Bernard and look forward to reading it.

Thanks

Neil
