McColl/Rankin marriage pre 1800 by Ian McColl - written 20/04/2017 08:47:37

I am able to trace my line back to Hugh McColl, b 1802  - only official record I can find states he was born in Avondale in Lanark district, although there are references by other researches to him being born in Appin. In the 1841 Census he himself states he was born in Appin. Recently discovered references to a brother Donald, b 1800 Appin, although no evidence seen. That reference connects Donald through ,marriage to Anne Russell and later to Ann Steel and his death in Wishaw in 1879.

The parents of Hugh McColl, b1802, are recorded in Avondale as Angus McColl and Mary Rankin, but I can find no record of either in Scotlands People - are there any other local record sources not held by Scotlands People that would help in my search?  With the possibility of a first born son called Donald, I am also intersted in tracking any other Donald McColls who may be the father of Angus. Also looking to confirm the Rankin connection.

Any input would be appreciated - visiting Appin 30 April 2017.
