Hi all: I am interested in tracing my McColl ancestors. Scott, can you share your tonnes of information on the McColls in Ontario?
Long story short, Ann McColl of Lismore (1819-1915) married Donald McPhail (1811-1895) of Mull. They lived in the Oban area and on a croft named Kilvaree near the Black Lochs, not far from Connel. In about 1884 they moved with most of their adult children to West Lorne, in Elgin County, Ontario, Canada. Three adult sons stayed behind in Scotland (John, my gg grandfather, Dugald, and Archibald, the latter two being in the police). I believe that two of the sons emigrated prior to 1884 and may have lived with some McColl relatives already in Canada.
I welcome any information about Ann's family.
I have Hugh McColl married to an Agnes McColl (wedded cousins) as ancestors. They lived in Glsdrum/Appin and they had at least 3 children: John (born 1789), Agnes (Anne, born 1795-96) and possibly another daughter, Janet, died 1885 in Glascoe. I decend from John McColl, who along with his wife, Catherine, emigrated to the Scotch block, near Toronto, Canada. I have some info on Anne who married Dugald McColl and lived on Lismore. I have "tonnes" of info on the McColls of Canada and the USA. Hope we can mutually be of informative assistance. Peace, Scott J McColl
Hi. I am new to the forum. I am trying to find more information about my Mccoll ancestors who originated from Lismore and Appin. I have a Samuel Mccoll wh was born in 1788 at Kenlochlaigh and was the son of Hugh Mcoll and Mary Mclaren (born 1745 and 1749 respectively) who were also born in Kenochlaigh. Samuel married Janet Campbell and moved to Lismore where he was the schoolmaster, postmaster and court officer and i think basically anything else that was going. They had 12 children and i would love to find out more about the family especially if Hugh Mccolls (born 1745) father was active in the Appin regiment. havnt been able to get any further back than 1745 you see. Hope to hear from someone and hoping to visit Appin once more in 2014.
