I am a direct descendant of Thomas Cairns born c. 1773 at Leith Scotland. Thomas Cairns married  Janet Stewart abt 1795 and they had 5 children and owned 86 acres of farming land at Dunning, Perthshire. In both 1841 & 1851 Census records for Dunning the origin of Janet Stewart is listed as Appen (Appin) Argyll. I would be more than happy if anyone has any information that would enable me to connect the family to an earlier generation. In his will dated 1861 Thomas Cairns left some silver spoons, that had previously belonged to uncle Duncan Stewart (therefore Janet's brother). Janet was born abt 8-9 years earlier than Thomas so, her birth would have been around 1764.

I am assuming that she may have left the area not merely for marriage but perhaps to remove herself from an area where the earlier conflicts had left bitter memories. Any information would be moist welcome.
