...to Mr Site's October newsletter. This month we're exploring the world of ecommerce and how to get your website transacting in no time at all! We've got hints and tips and information from the experts at PayPal...plus lots and lots of news from Mr Site HQ.
So, why is ecommerce important to your website? Well, for one thing, selling goods and services online has become increasingly important. A recent survey by Mr Site and PayPal found that businesses in the UK were losing an average of £252 billion every year by not taking the plunge!

Setting up an online shop has a number of advantages, which include:

  • Keeping costs down – if you start selling online, you don’t need to rent high-street premises
  • The opportunity to generate sales around the world
  • You can stay open 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • Receive payments more quickly
  • Attract new customers
  • Being able to use your online shop as a catalogue
  • Affordable – with your Mr Site package you can set up a secure PayPal online shop quickly and easily…and at no extra cost

Here’s a few things to think about before you set up you online shop:

  • Keep your product information up-to-date – customers can be put off by incorrect information
  • Make it easy for people to find your shop on your website
  • Sent up a reliable delivery process for your goods
  • Photography – poor images will not you help sell your products, so try and represent them as accurately as possible
  • Provide some company information and a method of contact if people have questions – would you buy goods or services from someone without these?
  • Confirm orders immediately by email – this will help build confidence in your company
  • Being honest – tell your customers if you can't deliver on time

Competition winner

Created by Jon Earle

Thank you to everyone who submitted their PR themed stories for last month's competition. We saw some great entries and were really impressed all your brilliant coverage. Our winner this month is Jon Earle from www.songsfromtheshed.com.

"I started the website in June 2009 after a conversation in a pub, which has quickly grown from a 'hobby' into a site that is in demand from internet surfers and musicians across the world. The shed has quickly gained a reputation as a quirky and fun way for bands and musicians to get a performance online.

The Water Tower Bucket Boys from Portland Oregon were the first international band to play in the shed and they followed up their session in the shed with a live session on Mark Lamarr's Radio 2 show. On the 7th September, I sent out my first press release to the press and the response was instant with the phone ringing within half an hour! In the following days, the story appeared as a quarter page in The Western Daily Press and as a full page feature in The Bristol Evening Post.

The articles can be seen here

The effect on hits to the site was also immediate – doubling within ten days of release and still rising!"

And remember...Mr Site can help with the PR of your website! We've set up a special mailing list to let our customers know about any exciting publicity opportunities that come our way from the press.
