For info of fellow Lancashire .com walkers I was walking around the north lakes at Longton brickcroft about 830am today 041116 when two black swans flew over the lake in convoy about 30metres above the lake appearing to head towards the ribble estuary. I have reported it to the rspb for their info . There was a sighting of one being on the marshes last year at this time so keep your eyes peeled while walking in that area because they only start their courting in the new year. The two I saw one appeared slightly larger than the other bird jim

Downham - beautiful walk with another superb lunch stop. As with the Hurst Green stop we could see the three Yorkshire Peaks in the distance. This week's walk - we did the Sculpture Trail on a couple of days in Barley having given up on Pendle owing to snow and ice - although that also made this walk somewhat difficult - will be no problem this weather!
Comment by: Marian Vaughn
Completed the Hurst Green walk last week and so glad you pointed out the lunch stop overlooking the Vale of Hodder. Where in the world could you find a better view than that? Very interested in the Haworth walk. We go to Hebden Bridge every year for a week's walking and Mike's favourite walk is over the moors from Hebden Bridge to Haworth. Going to do the Downham walk next - just the right length considering we have to use public transport from Preston!!

ATTN. BOB/ Copy of an email I sent earlier (Header NEWBIE. Maybe it found its way into your spam) in the week. (I've omitted my phone contacts from this one as anyone could read them)........Hi Bob,
I'm a friend of Sue and Jim Skipper who I believe come walking with you on a Tuesday. I would like to join the group and as Jim believes there might be a space in the car from Clifton-Paul Taylor, Bob and Jim I was wondering if /hoping that you could pass on my email and phone number to them and ask if they would be prepared to let me car/fuel cost share. I would be happy to drive too.I live in (new) Cottam, at the top of Lea Road, and could easily go down Lea Road to Blackpool road near the Police Station, or wherever they suggest dependent on the area of walk, to meet up with them.
i'd like to start with the Tuesday walk next week - Downholland.
If there is no response I'll have to drive to Jim's (I believe he's South Ribble) and pick up a car share there.
Many thanks, Look forward to hearing from you

Bit late putting this on, but we did the Ladyewell wall on Easter saturday. The shrine a Ladyewell a bit creepy. The first half of walk is the best.A farmer had installed an electric fence across one of the feilds to keep his cows at one end so we had to go under it,apart from that we enjoyed the walk. Now we need to decide on May's walk. boundary mill good idea that I,d make it 4 hours and go up boulesworth hill Trawden/Wycoller.
fantastic find walking lives changed for ever todays first walk burscough.
Did first walk from this fantastic website today right at the centre of Great Britain. Hope to do many more. Thanks.
What a wonderful website. Have lived in Lancashire all my life and usually gone to the Lakes or further to walk. Looking for ideas and found this gem. Particularly like the photos as following descriptions alone causes me confusion (is this the right place?). Also love the illustrations, they're lovely. Will definately be using your walks in the future. Thanks
What a wonderful web side full of excellent walking tips.

just been reading with interest the penwortham walk, dont know if you knew but as you walk along tram road on your left across the fields in the old raised section of the blackburn line which is now also part of the wildlife area, what a lot of people dont realise is that the whole of that raised section front the bridge over the river to vernons is a viaduct but all the archs have been filled in/overgrown.
great website, blogs good too, kat is ok ,shes out with emma tonight. We went to white scar caves last week and Emma thinks she went with you at sometime, do you recall?

Today I have read with delight the exploits from Christmas onwards...you are masterful at story telling and keeping the reader engrossed. I expect to see a book published soon...possibly your diaries!! The floods are even hitting the British news so we are keeping upto ....I feel a little smug that I was okay last year and really do hope 'La Nina' the cause I believe of the flooding sorts herself out! Off skiing on Sat but will look forward to reading more blogs on return. Yesterdays walk was good but the Griff his doing things in your absence re Pub of the Year!! Enough said to wet your appetite! I recently took up walking again after a long lay off,Findin your website is a plus and one of the most useful things i've found on the net, a great mixture of walks and distances.
The PDF format in archived walks is excellent.

What a wonderful little website!!
After 13 years of monthly walks in all kinds of weather, the Great Eccleston W.I. Rambling Group were very pleased to meet you on the ‘treacherously slippy slope’ at Thornley recently. It added daring and excitement to our walk. We will certainly use more of your excellent walks. No longer will we be searching for a stile in an overgrown hedge or aiming to ‘turn left at the static caravan’ that is no longer there. Keep up the good work!
very intresting

I was taling to a client recently about walking and she mentioned this site. Well I have never looked back. So far I have probably done about 8 walks. So there are still plenty to go at! So thank you so much.
Whilst I am obviously not physically lazy, I must be mentally. I just love printing off my directions and following them. There's nothing to work out for myself!

I have had a really lovely day taking the walks around Lancashire whilst I sit here at home (in Mississippi USA) being very homesick - but thanks to the lovely photography and information I really felt like I was there enjoying every inch of it all - some of the places I have been on my many visits home (I am from Blackpool) I am usually there this time of the year but this year sadly i can't be there. But I have enjoyed immenseley the visit i have had on my "Lancashire Walks. Thank you.
